GHQ British Expeditionary Force
||Successor to the original British Expeditionary Force of 1914.
||It was briefly reformed in France as the 2nd BEF in June 1940, an effort which failed owing to the French collapse in late June, it was then re-evacuated to the United Kingdom.
||At the time of the German invasion in May 1940, it was acting as both an Army HQ and GHQ. Once IV Corps had arrived in June 1940, it was intended to form two Army HQ (1 Army and 2 Army) to control two Corps HQs each. This was forestalled by the German invasion.
