51 (Gold Coast) Light Battery WAA
51 (Gold Coast) Light Battery West African Artillery

Joslen has this Battery under command 12 (Africa) Infantry Division until 06 December 1940. However, elsewhere he has it (under its previous name 2 (Gold Coast) Lt Battery) returning to West Africa in December 1941 under command 24 (Gold Coast) Infantry Brigade. Am assuming that Battery sailed back to West Africa with the Brigade in which case it cannot have been under command 12 (Africa) Infantry Division in East Africa after 11 October 1941. Brigade was redesignated 2 (West Africa) Infantry Brigade on arrival in the Gold Coast on 1 December 1941. Joslen explicitly says that Battery was redesignated 2 (WA) Light Battery WAAC on its return to West Africa. This supposition could be incorrect but that would imply that Battery returned to the Gold Coast later in a separate convoy which seems unlikely (to me). |

Frederick barely mentions this Battery at all. |
