# Note
1 Formed in September 1939 to command formations sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force (qv). It was the first Corps HQ formed by Britain in the Second World War - Britain, unlike Germany, did not have standing Corps HQs in its peacetime army. Evacuated to Britain in June 1940, it remained in the United Kingdom until June 1944 when it took part in Operation Overlord. It formed part of 1 Canadian Army until April (?) 1945 when it was transfered to 2 Army.
2 HQ may have been designated I Corps District in 1941-1942.
