The bulk of the Battalion was lost after the Sittang Bridge was blown up prematurely. The remnants were merged with 3/7 Gurkha Rifles to form a composite battalion, designated 7 Gurkha Rifles for the remainder of the campaign. |

Following the return to India in May 1942, the composite battalion was dispersed and the two original battalions were reformed. |
